APDM User Group Meeting - Wednesday, November 28, 2007

The APDM User Group meeting, held at ESRI’s Houston Office, was attended by 30+ people in person and five different parties via phone conference and Internet Live Meeting. After a brief introductions seven presentations were given (two via Live Meeting) to the people THe presentations that were given on site are available for download (listed below).

The first presentation was from the folk at Colonial Pipeline Company who discussed the reasons why they choose APDM, how they have implemented it, what they are currenlty testing (a hybrid feature/event-based model), and their current project for reconciling the position of their pipeline centerline with highly accurate GPS positions. The second presentation was delivered by NiSource Gas Transmission and Storage folks who discussed their web-based GIS Information Portal that was developed using ESRI’s GeoPortalToolkit. Both presentations generated a lot of interest and questions from the participants. The third presenation was a brief overview of some changes that have been proposed by the APDM User Community by APDM Users over the past year. This was following by an excellent presentation from Enbridge-USA on their past and current implementation of APDM including successes, challenges, and their planned path forward. The next presentaiton was an overview of One-Call Operations and GIS given by Dig-Smart LLC and the considerations of what database and workflow considerations need to be accounted for in integrating One-Call and GIS. Questar Gas Company then presented on their efforts on data integration and reconcilation after their APDM was implemented. Lastly, ESRI presented an overview of some proposed and planned data modeling efforts to better integrate the various upstream, midstream and downstream pipeline data models.

APDM User Group Meeting is an informal gathering of APDM Users and APDM Committee members. The meeting is aimed to facilitate discussion about APDM between members of the APDM community. The meeting is open to anyone interested in the APDM. There is no registration process other than RSVP’ing to Rob Brook at (rbrook@esri.com).

The next APDM User Group meeting is tentatively planned to be sometime in conjunction with ESRI’s PUG Conference, February 25-27, 2008 in Houston, Texas, USA.
