WHAT IS THE ESRI Pipeline Interest Group (PIG)?
The Pipeline Interest Group (PIG) was originally created because while many pipeline operators were using ESRI solutions there were very limited opportunities for users to communicate about best practices with industry peers. Its primary goals were then, and still are today to address the needs of the industry, serve the interests of ESRI’s clients and to influence ESRI's development efforts. The PIG is a self-administered, self-financed special interest group with industry leadership and events throughout the years.
PIG was very involved in the initial creation of the APDM and the steering and a technical committee grew out of this group. Today the PIG remains the parent organization for the APDM.
WHAT IS THE ESRI Petroleum User Group (PUG)?
The ESRI Petroleum User Group was started in 1991 to serve the common interests of ESRI's petroleum industry clients. The PUG, as it is affectionately called, is a self-administered, self-financed special interest group that meets twice a year. The group now has almost 2,000 members, and almost 250 non-US.
The PUG exists to further the effective use of GIS technology by the Petroleum Industry. This is accomplished by facilitating communication about GIS usage, problems, and future needs between ESRI, oil companies, GIS consultants, oil service companies, GIS data providers, hardware suppliers, and software suppliers.
